Extracting Travel Document for Egyptian Newborns in London

19 March 2019 (updated: 25 March 2019)

It’s easier than you’d expect! And free!

Here’s what is needed to extract a travel document from London that a person would need to get into Egypt in case they don’t have a passport (yet!)

Story

My wife and I had a newborn baby (Sarah) a couple of months ago and we’re taking her to Egypt to get her passport. But to get her from London to Egypt without a passport we need a “Travel document” from the Egyptian Consulate to allow her to go through airport passport control (and it works with transit flights as well).

Steps

Go the the Egyptian Consulate from 9:30 to 12:30 and receive the travel document same day from 2:30 to 4

Protip: The travel document is valid for only 30 days or so from the issue date, so take care not to extract it too early Protip 2: First one is free!

Papers needed:

  • Copy of the baby’s Egyptian birth certificate (or original British birth certificate if Egyptian certificate wasn’t issued yet)
  • Marriage certificate
  • Both parents passports
  • 2 personal photos (following passport photos guidelines)

And that should be all. I hope that helps someone in the future.
